Expanding Your Practice Through Early Childhood Dental Care and the Care of Pregnant Women

Sarah Holland, executive director for the Virginia Oral Health Coalition (VaOHC)

Nathan Webb, M.D. Asst. professor, VCU Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynecology

 

Continental breakfast begins at 8 a.m.

 

This session will teach participants the unique clinical skills necessary to provide dental care to young children. Second, the course will review effective strategies and techniques to help children and parents understand the importance of good oral health as well as the need for every child to have secure, ongoing care from a consistent provider (a dental home). Lastly, participants will gain a snapshot of the access issues facing Virginia and learn techniques to help build their dental practices. Teaching methods include lecture, role-play, and question and answer.

The participant will be able to:

1. Review the importance of a pediatric dental home for very young children

2. Discuss methods to improve oral health outcomes for children

3. Review access issues facing Virginia

4. Discuss techniques that will help build a dental practice

5. Identify techniques to improve oral health habits among pregnant women

6. Identify barriers to access and delivery of perinatal oral health care

$95 (D.D.S.), and $55 (D.H.). Cost includes lunch and cover charge to block party.
