Dentistry in Action:  Challenges to Today's Oral Health Provider

A. Carole Pratt, D.D.S. (D.D.S.'76/D)

Dr. Pratt practiced general dentistry in rural southwest VA for 32 years, and throughout her years of practice and retirement, she has been active in leadership positions with local, state and national dental organizations.  Among them, she served as president of the American Association of Women Dentists, was chair of Virginia's Board of Health for four terms and served as vice chair of the Department of Medical Assistance Services Board.  She was appointed by Gov. Terry McAuliffe to serve as a special policy adviser to the commissioner of the Virginia Department of Health.

Join Dr. Pratt and her colleagues, Clay Hendricks, D.D.S. (M.S./'76/M; D.D.S.'76/D), Roger Palmer, D.D.S. (D.D.S.'76/D), and Jim Schroeder, D.D.S. (M.S.'76/M; D.D.S.'76/D), as they present different challenges oral health providers face and provide practical solutions.  Following their mini-presentations, there will be a panel discussion.  During this activity, attendees will learn about current unmet dental needs in the state, underlying causes of these needs and some of the ways the dental profession is working to meet them; learn how special needs patients may be successfully treated in the private dental office; and gain a greater understanding of unique barriers to dental care in rural communities.  For more information on course content, contact the Office of Continuing Education at (804) 828-0869.
