2019 Monroe Scholars Book and Author Luncheon

Join the VCU Office of Alumni Relations for the ninth annual Monroe Scholars Book and Author Luncheon, featuring award-winning author Lee Smith.
Smith has written 17 works of fiction including “Fair and Tender Ladies,” “Oral History,” “Guests on Earth” and her most recent novel, “Dimestore, A Writer’s Life,” a collection of personal essays about growing up in the Appalachian Mountains of southwestern Virginia. She has received many awards including the North Carolina Award for Literature and an Academy Award in Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Her novel “The Last Girls” was a New York Times best-seller as well as winner of the Southern Book Critics Circle Award.
Meet Smith at the luncheon and purchase an autographed copy of “Dimestore.”
Cost: $75 per person or $600 for a table of eight. $50 of each ticket is a tax-deductible contribution.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Monroe Scholars Book Award program, which provides a special recognition award and a $1,000 scholarship to high school students who meet the criteria of leadership and scholarship and who enroll at VCU.
