Patterns of Place: Panel discussion investigating methodologies of study used to examine regional and vernacular patterns

5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Feb. 02, 2021

With the support of a VCUarts Dean’s Exploratory Research Grant, the Patterns of Place research team has, over the past two years, engaged professional designers in pattern documentation exercises. Seven professional designers have submitted nearly 100 pattern observations to the research team, investigating patterns in natural and built environments. They documented their research in photography, hand-drawing, stenciling, digital composition and watercolor, allowing viewers to see patterns individually or as part of a larger whole. This panel discussion will share research outcomes and the varied, thoughtful processes used by the designers that participated in Patterns of Place.
