VCU Military Student Services 9/11 Commemoration

8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Sept. 10, 2021

Twenty years ago, on Sept. 11, 2001, the U.S. was attacked by terrorists. The VCU Military Student Services office and the VCU Student Veterans Association invite alumni to return to campus for a special commemoration ceremony in recognition of the lives lost on 9/11.

8:35 a.m.: Military Student Services, Student Veterans Association and VFW Post 6364 gather for a wreath laying in front of flags at Harris hall.

8:40 a.m.: Brief words from the VFW post commander

8:46 a.m.: Flight 11 hits the North Tower, moment of silence

8:46 a.m.-1 p.m. (or earlier): Commencement of events to remember and celebrate those lives lost. The Student Veterans Association, Military Student Services, VFW 6364 and all guests will honor those lost on 9/11/2001 and during the subsequent war on terror by rucking (walking with a weighted rucksack) laps in the Ram courtyard to simulate the Twin Towers stairs that were scaled by so many brave men and women 20 years ago. Anyone wishing to ruck a lap will be welcome to do so. Do a lap in honor of a loved one who served, and sign their name on the board. Pushups will also be done in honor of each life lost.
