Kevin Powers (B.A.'08/H&S) graduated from VCU after serving in the U.S. Army. Powers used his experiences as a machine gunner in Mosul and Tal Afar, Iraq, as the basis for his highly acclaimed novel "The Yellow Birds," a best-seller and 2013 finalist for the National Book Award. The Richmond native is returning to his hometown and school to talk about his experiences both as a writer and a soldier. A light lunch will be served at noon followed by a panel discussion.
