VCU's Student National Dental Association hosts its annual Oral Cancer Walk to raise awareness of oral cancer. Funds generated from the walk are donated to the VCU Phillips Institute of Oral and Craniofacial Molecular Biology.

About 42,000 people in the U.S. will be newly diagnosed with oral cancer in 2014. This includes those cancers that occur in the mouth, in the very back of the mouth known as the oropharynx and on the lip. The SNDA's mission is to improve oral health care within the community and abroad by increasing access to care within communities.

This is the fifth consecutive year in which there has been an increase in the rate of occurrence of oral cancers.
