School of Nursing Alumni Connector: Mentorship Program

The School of Nursing's Alumni Connector: Mentorship Program connects nursing students and alumni by building a community where nursing professionals can offer advice on school matters, information about career options and other issues relevant to nursing. The program runs annually October-April.

The program is open to all alumni and current students of the School of Nursing and is meant to provide students with a mentor that they can go to for wisdom and encouragement as they go through their year. Who better to turn to for guidance than someone who has been in their shoes?

1. What if I don’t live in Richmond, Virginia?
Everyone is welcome to join the program regardless of their location. Mentors who live outside of the Richmond area must be able to engage in distance mentoring by email, phone and/or video chat.

2. What is the time commitment?
Alumni Connector is an academic yearlong commitment running October-April for all participants.

3. What are the eligibility requirements for being a mentor?
To be considered to serve as a mentor through the program, alumni must be one year removed from college and have current or past professional experience in the nursing field. You must also agree to connect with your mentee at least once per month for the duration of the program.

4. What kind of support may I expect from the university?
All participants will be invited to a kickoff event to launch the mentor program. From there, you can expect communications from the development and alumni relations office with reminders and suggestions for get-togethers.
